Rembrandt lighting is named after 17th century Dutch artist, Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn who was known for using earthy tones and golden highlights to frame the faces of his portraiture subject.
His painting style was distinct because focusing the lighting on the subject's face and adding detail tapped into the innate human attraction to the face.
The approach creates an effect where one half of the subject's face is fully illuminated while the other half is in shadow, except for a small inverted triangle of light below the subject's eye.
The Rembrandt lighting technique creates dramatic and moody images with a vibe of mystery - perfect for the Bride's preparation photo shoot.
